ProVal - Update

Use: Update an existing 3.09 installation. If 3.09 isn't installed already, use the Full Installation above.

  1. Click Download Update (above).
  2. Exit ProVal. All users must exit for a network installation.
  3. Unzip updt309.zip into the ProVal program folder, replacing existing files.
  4. Start ProVal and follow the instructions. Write-access to the ProVal folder is required.

For a list of changes, see patches.doc (in updt309.zip).


Disclosure and Budgeting Tool

License: Free for use with existing files, subject to accepting the terms of use upon installation.

Use: Install ProVal’s Disclosure and Budgeting tool as a standalone application. Not needed if you already have ProVal installed.

  1. Click Download Disclosure and Budgeting Tool (above).
  2. Run pvdb309.exe.

Grid Agent Installation

License: Paid subscription (separate from ProVal)

Use: Install on computers designated to be part of the Grid Platform. Typically these are not the same computers where ProVal is installed. Note, you must run this installer as an administrator.

Regulatory Data Update

Use: Download the latest regulatory data for prior versions of ProVal. Not needed for the most recent version of ProVal, which already includes the latest regulatory data (recommended). Do not use this regulatory data with versions prior to ProVal 3.01 12/20/2010, which did not properly handle the 2011 decrease in U.S. Soc. Sec. National Avg. Wage and/or the 2010 zero U.S. Soc. Sec. CPI. If you’re not sure whether you should apply these updates, email support@winklevoss.com or call +1 203 861 5540.

  1. Click Download Regulatory Data (above).
  2. Exit ProVal. All users must exit for a network installation.
  3. Unzip regdata.zip into the ProVal program folder, replacing existing files. For network installations, the ProVal program folder is typically on a network server and not a user's workstation

IRS-2018 Proposed Mortality Tables Template

Use: Access IRS-2018 proposed mortality tables, per proposed regulation §1.430(h)(3)-1.

  1. Click Download Mortality Template (above) and unzip it into a new folder.
  2. From within other ProVal clients where the tables are desired, go to the Mortality Rates library and click the Import button.
  3. Specify the folder where you unzipped the template client, add the desired mortality table(s), and click Import.

This template includes:

  1. IRS 2018 Generational Mortality. The SOA mortality improvement scale MP-2016 applied to the proposed base rates.
  2. IRS 2018 Static Mortality. The proposed static table to be used for plan years beginning during 2018.
  3. IRS 2018 Small Plan Combined Static Mortality. The proposed static table to be optionally used for small plans with plan years beginning during 2018.
  4. IRS 2018 Static Mortality, 0 Pre-Comm. IRS 2018 Static Mortality with rates of 0 pre-commencement.
  5. IRS 2018 Small Plan Combined Static Mortality, 0 Pre-Comm. IRS 2018 Small Plan Combined Static Mortality with rates of 0 pre-commencement.

Tables 2-5 are static and only intended for valuation year 2018. For forecasting, we suggest using the generational mortality in Table 1.


MP-2016 Mortality Tables Template

Use: Access Society of Actuaries MP-2016 tables.

  1. Click Download Mortality Template (above) and unzip it into a new folder.
  2. From within other ProVal clients where the tables are desired, go to the Mortality Rates library and click the Import button.
  3. Specify the folder where you unzipped the template client, add the desired mortality table(s), and click Import.

This template includes:

  1. SOA Scale MP-2016. As with Scales MP-2014 and 2015, Scale MP-2016 has been extended for years prior to 1951 as suggested in Section 8.3 of the Mortality Improvement Scale MP-2014 Report, though the rates of 2% and 3% for males and females, respectively, were not included in the published version of MP-2016.
  2. RP[H]-2014 Adjusted to 2006 … with Scale MP-2016. Eight mortality tables that link to RP-2014 base rates back-adjusted to 2006 and apply MP-2016. The base rates are adjusted to 2006 using the set of factors published by RPEC. These tables are based on RP-2014 and RPH-2014 for Total Dataset, Blue Collar, White Collar, and Disabled Retirees.
  3. RP[H]-2014 … with Scale MP-2016. Eight mortality tables that link to (unadjusted) RP-2014 base rates and apply MP-2016. These tables are based on RP-2014 and RPH-2014 for Total Dataset, Blue Collar, White Collar, and Disabled Retirees.
